Grant money for new windows and doors.

The City of Sandusky and Perkins Township both help homeowners pay for work on the outside of the house. We’re proud partners of both programs.

What could you get?

Only the part of the job you can see from the street counts toward the grant.

The grant could cover up to

$3,000

You’d pay about $5,000.

This is a rough number. The city decides who qualifies and how much they get.

The two programs.

City of Sandusky

50% of the cost, up to $3,000

Exterior Repair Program

  • Windows and doors are covered, along with siding, roofs, porches and paint.
  • The work has to be visible from the main street side of the house.
  • You own the home and live there full time. It can have up to three units.
  • City planning staff review homes built before 1950 and may make recommendations.
  • Applications usually open the first Monday in February.

What you send in

A project description, a contractor’s estimate and a W-9. Email it, mail it, or use the drop box inside the City Hall lobby doors.

Housing Rehab and Property Improvement Program

  • Windows and doors are covered, along with siding, roofs, gutters, porches and paint.
  • The work has to face the street. Rear-only work doesn’t count.
  • You own the home, live in it, and your household income is at or under the limit below.
  • You pay a $100 contribution when you’re approved.
  • It’s first approved, first served, from $100,000 set aside for the year.
  • A property can get this grant once every five years.
  • The job has to be done within six months of approval or before December 15.

Foundations, landscaping, driveways, sidewalks and interior work aren’t covered. If the job runs over $10,000, you pay the difference before work starts. After inspection, the township pays the contractor directly.

Other help from the city.

These aren’t window programs, but they’re worth knowing about if you live in Sandusky.

  • Substantial Redevelopment

$5,000 on projects of $20,000 or more. $7,500 on projects of $50,000 or more.

  • Home Purchase Assistance

Up to $5,000 toward closing, paid to the title agency. You don’t have to be a first-time buyer.

  • Exterior Paint

Up to $2,000 for paint and supplies. Labor isn’t included. This was a 2026 pilot.

How it works with us.

  1. Get an estimate from us

Both programs ask for a contractor’s estimate. Ours is free and in writing.

  2. Send in your application

It goes to the city or the township, not to us. Their contact is listed above if you get stuck.

  3. We do the work once you’re approved

Wait for their answer before anything gets started. Then we build your windows and doors and put them in with our own crew.

The city and the township run these programs and decide who qualifies. These numbers come from their 2026 materials and can change from year to year, so check with them before you count on the money. Not in either area? See financing.
